Programs

Simba Arts is an interdisciplinary arts platform dedicated to dance, movement research, cultural dialogue, and community development. Its programs focus on artistic production, youth empowerment, professional mentorship, and cross-cultural collaboration. Through structured initiatives and creative projects, Simba Arts positions dance as both artistic practice and social infrastructure.

Movement in Creative Arts (MICA)

Movement in Creative Arts (MICA) is an annual international residency taking place in June-July & December-March, based in Norway and Zimbabwe. The program starts in Norway and concludes in Zimbabwe, with participating artists and facilitators working through the same artistic and pedagogical program in both contexts.

MICA is grounded in contemporary movement and performance practices and is dedicated to high artistic quality, participation, and meaningful engagement of children and young people. The project emphasizes intercultural exchange, artistic development, and access to creative processes across different social and cultural environments.

Vestland Danseteater

Vestland Danseteater (VDT) is Bergen–Vestland’s project based dance and theatre ensemble for professional artists with multicultural and migrant backgrounds. Rooted in Western Norway, VDT creates contemporary dance productions, supports local dancers through projects and mentorship, and promotes inclusion and international collaboration.

Danseteater of Mosi Oa Tunya

Danseteater of Mosi oa Tunya is a Southern African contemporary dance ensemble grounded in cultural heritage and movement innovation. Inspired by the symbolic power of “Mosi oa Tunya” (The Smoke That Thunders), the company bridges tradition and contemporary expression while fostering artistic excellence and regional cultural dialogue.

ZiDanceSpace

ZiDanceSpace is a long-term strategic vision to establish a sustainable national dance ecosystem in Zimbabwe. It aims to function as a hub for training, research, production, performance, and community engagement. ZiDanceSpace connects artistic excellence with youth employment, cultural policy, and creative economy development toward 2030 and beyond.

Dance Evenings

International Contemporary Dance Evenings (ICDE) is a forthcoming twice-annual contemporary dance platform in Zimbabwe, initiated by Simba Arts under the Culture in a Bowl framework (est. 2025).

The platform is designed to bring together Zimbabwean and international artists for curated evenings of performance, residency-based collaboration, and public dialogue. Each edition will feature works developed through the MICA (Movement, Innovation, Community & Arts) Residency alongside invited guest artists and emerging local choreographers.

Planned to be hosted at venues such as 7Arts Theatre, ICDE aims to strengthen Zimbabwe’s contemporary dance ecosystem while fostering international cultural exchange through movement.
